Fresh Baked Musicals: A Concert Sampling

A concert gala will be held Saturday, August 4th from 7 pm to 9:15 at Brookfield Theatre for the Arts (a 501 3 c nonprofit community theatre organization), 184 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield, CT

For this one-time concert showcase of new works, we are seeking solos, duets, and trios from musicals that have been written since 2010 and for which you have hopes of future productions. If your work is selected, you must be able to provide performance permission and sheet music.

BE HEARD: This is an opportunity to have your song performed for a community theater audience and our special guests, as well as to have your show described in our printed program. You’re also invited to share in the fun evening and test your piece(s) with a live audience. (Link to Fresh Baked Musicals on Brookfield Theatre’s site.)

WHAT WE PROVIDE FOR SELECTED SONGS

• Singers from Connecticut and New York who will rehearse and perform your piece, unless you would like to come to Brookfield to perform your own.
• A Music Director who will guide the process and accompany pieces on the piano.
• Our historic theatre seating 130, lighting, sound, piano, refreshments, publicity.
• A printed program that will include a blurb about your song/show.

OUR SPECIFIC CONCERT INTERESTS INCLUDE

• comedic songs
• self-aware songs about songwriting, singing, musicals, or performing
• songs about food (to tie in the “Fresh Baked” idea)
• songs about the summer season (summer, vacation, back to school).
• powerful up-tempo numbers that express hope or resolve (“Defying Gravity” style)
• ballads of love, friendship, parent/child relations, etc.

Please do not submit independent songs that are not part of a musical. It’s fine if songs have debuted in musical productions before. We only ask that they are relatively new and that they are not bound by contractual agreements with licensing agencies. You will be notified of our response in March.

HOW TO SUBMIT A SONG (Maximum 3)

By March 1, 2018 please contact Carol de Giere, curator of new musicals for Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, with song title(s), a paragraph about the new musical. My preference for music files is a link to a recording on Soundcloud or a Youtube performance. If you don’t have that, you may attach 1 or 2 song files to your email.

Write to carol@musicalwriters.com with “Song Submission” in the subject heading.
